Thank God For Your Abilities
Thank GOD for your abilities
We take our abilities for granted i.e. walk, talk, see and hear. It’s easy to do – we wake up in the morning and immediately, without thinking, walk across the room, answer the telephone, look out the window and turn on the radio. Our abilities become second nature without a thought of how precious they are.
We often complain about having to use them. Honestly, we do. We complain about having to walk to the printer down the hall, having to answer the customer phone call that provides our income, having to look at endless pages in a “required reading” report or having to listen to a seminar to improve our knowledge.
If these abilities were taken away, just for one day, how would we react …
· To losing our ability to walk - to be confined to a wheelchair? The legs that once carried us from point A to point B without thinking no longer listen to our cry to run, walk and skip across the room.
· To losing our ability to speak – to converse with family and friends? To say the words, “I love you!” or to share the joys and sorrows of life.
· To losing our precious sight - not seeing the beauty God created – a child’s smile or a spectacular rainbow?
· To losing our ability to hear the amazing sound of the music, or the words, “I love you” or the voice of your precious child?
How would we cope? A question we need to ask ourselves – OFTEN.
I’ve been blessed to volunteer with those without these abilities. And let me tell you, its heart wrenching. And it reminds me how OFTEN I take my abilities for granted. And how often I fail to thank GOD for them.
To be without one of these precious abilities is life changing, but to be without several can be overwhelming. But what I’ve learned from these special angels – they cope just fine and they are great teachers of patience.
So today – stop and thank GOD for your abilities. And if you see one person without just one of these abilities – extend your hand of helps. Whatever they need, help. Put your abilities to good use and offer your legs, voice, eyes and ears and bless one person today.
